The Beyond the Bases Podcast continues this offseason with the newest Marlin, LHP Ross Detwiler joining the show.

Detwiler talks about a strange 2020 season, why he chose the Marlins and how he’s grown as a pitcher during his 12-year career.

Detwiler pitched in 16 games out of the bullpen for the Chicago White Sox in 2020, going 1–1 with a 3.20 ERA in 44.0 innings while limiting lefties to just a .194 average. He began the season with a 12.1-inning scoreless streak and retired his first 16 batters he faced.

The 34-year-old was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft by the Washington Nationals and has pitched in parts of 12 Major League seasons, going 27–48 with a 4.56 ERA in 224 games (95 starts). As a reliever, he is 5–6 with a 4.80 ERA in 129 appearances, collecting one save. In 75 appearances (29 starts) against National League East division foes, Detwiler owns 13–9, 3.40 career marks, with a .249 opponent average.
